Please Note: This post was originally posted in 2018, so while most of the links still work, we cannot guarantee it anymore. However, we have updated and released a new Top Ten Christmas Gifts list for 2020, which you can visit by clicking here

(Ed Note: This is *not* paid content! None of the websites/businesses listed below have paid us to be included on this list. These are all items we honestly think you would love because we love (or have loved) them ourselves. Enjoy!)

I know, I know, Christmas is still a few weeks off, but if you want to get something really unique and cool for that hockey fan on your list – and not whatever ornament you can find that’s left at 7-Eleven at 11pm on Christmas Eve – you need to start thinking about searching and ordering something to get it in time to wrap it and put it the tree. And that’s where we come in.

Here at HbD, we’ve put together a list of strange, or wonderful, or obscure, or geeky, hockey-related gifts you might be wanting for yourself, or might be perfect for that special person on your gift list. So relax, pull out your list and start crossing off some names. You can thank us later. (All prices $USD)

1. The HbD Market

Well, of course we’d promote our own stuff. Why? Because we own them, we love them, and we know you and every hockey fan on your gift list will love them. And we’ve got stuff for every team in the league. Posters, stickers, t-shirts, mugs, pillows, we’ve got something for everyone. Whether it’s a team-specific pillow that they need to class-up that beaten down couch they watch hockey on, or our mugs to sip hot chocolate (with Baileys, naturally) while watching the game, there’s something for everyone.

And we’ve just released a bunch of new products, some featuring some of the most historic and iconic goalie masks in the league, some featuring Gritty, some letting you show off your extreme fandom to your favourite team. They’re pretty awesome, and any hockey fan in your life will love them too. Oh, and there might just be a big sale coming up soon…

2. Slapshot Hockey Pasta

Let’s start with a great stocking stuffer for the hockey fan/foodie in your life, or their kids. Or for the kid in all of us who still get a kick out of funny-shaped food. The Pasta Shoppe sells a variety of sports-themed pasta, but these are our favourites, for obvious reasons. And there’s even a taco pasta salad recipe on the back label. Huzzah!

And at a reasonable price, you can order a bunch, give some away, and still have enough to make the biggest, most awesome, massive bowl of mac n’ cheese that will last you through the week…or month…or year. Whatever, we don’t judge here. Except jerseys. We judge those often.

Available at The Pasta Shoppe ($5.50)

3. Hockey Pendant Ceiling Light

You: Looking for the perfect lighting fixture for your sports-themed basement or man-/woman-cave. Us: Here you go.

This 2 light pendant from the Novelty collection by ELK will enhance your home with a perfect mix of form and function. The features include a hockey finish applied by experts and an authentic looking old-school scoreboard. Not only will the home team always be winning, but your home/room will be winning too.

Available at ELK Lighting (on sale for $354.00)

4. The Store Next Door

The Store Next Door is a Nova Scotian manufacturer and retailer that focuses on employing people with disabilities and recycling wherever possible, and they’re a great source for authentic furniture and products made from recycled hockey sticks. Seriously, there’s some awesome stuff here that any hockey fan would love, and they’re doing it all by enriching the lives and the community around them. It’s seriously awesome.

There’s vinyl crates, pencil holders, Adirondack chairs, desks, towel racks, hat racks, tables, and lots more. You could fill your entire house with recycled hockey stick furniture, and you’d be supporting a great company doing great things. We highly recommend you check them out.

5. Hockey Wraparound

We all love getting new hockey sticks, but grinding them to a splinter playing outside is never a good thing. The Hockey Wraparound lets you use your expensive ice hockey stick off-ice without fear of damaging the blade. Now you can have a training tool for all seasons, on all surfaces.

There’s the Wraparound Ice, which is lightweight and perfect for stickhandling and all types of shooting (even slapshots!). Then there’s the Wraparound One, which is a bit heavier, perfect for stickhandling while building wrist and forearm strength. If you can’t decide, there’s even a bundle that includes both.

Available at HockeyWrapAround.com ($34.95)

6. Blade Shades

Now you can wear hockey on your head! Blade Shades, debuting for the first time this holiday season, offer hockey stick sunglasses in a trio of awesome styles: modern, goalie, and goon. This is a “must have” holiday gift for hockey players and fans. When the family’s all gathered for Christmas and the impromptu hockey game starts in the snow-covered back alley with the sun shining, you (or whoever you think would love this new product) will definitely look the part and may even be inspired to score the winning goal. Game on!

(Note: The shades are just being released this week at some point, so their website may still be “under construction”, but it should be up soon. And use the promo code PUTTHEGAMEON for 10% off!)

Available at BladeShades.com ($ varied)

7. Hockey Friendship Necklace

What do you get that special someone on your list, the best friend or partner who loves hockey as much as you do, who you know you’ll be friends forever with, who you want to watch every single game with, like you’re two faces of the same coin? Well, you get a coin that’s hockey-themed and cut in two.

Here’s one coin that has been cut in half with hockey players on each side, with both sides interlock perfectly like a puzzle. You can also cut personalized numbers on each side. You can have your choice from a variety of different coins and chain lengths, so you and your hockey-soulmate can always remember each other.

Available at NameCoins Jewlery (starts at $75.11 Cdn)

8. Sockeys (Hockey Socks)

Ugh, socks for Christmas? Yeah, but this ain’t your grandmother-bought-at-Walmart type of socks. These are the sock you’ll be lifting your pant leg for, so everyone can see.

Featuring a variety of different franchises, you can wrap your ankles with hockey icons from a variety of different eras and fandoms, from Peter Forsberg, Stan Mikita, and Ron Hextall, you’ll probably find a good gift for someone here.

Available at MyFanchise ($16.67, $22.00 Cdn)

9. Books

There’s always a slough of great books that come out every year for hockey fans, and 2018 was no exception. Here’s some we’d love to see under the tree with our names on it this year:

10. Gustavo Jaimes Posters

Last, but far from least, are some awesome posters design by Gustavo Jaimes. He’s got a whole series of goalie masks featuring old and current teams from around the league, and the Stanley Cup one featured above is definitely one of our favourites as well.

Of course, we at HbD love well-crafted and well-executed designs, and these certainly fit the bill. And they’d be a unique gift for any fan. He also has a bunch of non-hockey-related things, so you could always cross those strange people who don’t like hockey off your list as well.

Available at Gus J (starts at $20.00)
